Verizon Offering Free iPhone 4 for Existing Customers

I've been a long-time Verizon Wireless customer. I usually get a "basic phone" and upgrade to whatever free phones they are offering when it's time to renew.

I noticed a couple months ago that they were offering a Black or White iPhone 4 for free as an upgrade option. I went ahead and picked up a black one as my upgrade phone. I had never had an iPhone or any type of smartphone before.

So far, I like the phone pretty well. I realize this is not the latest model, but I am fine with that. I don't really care to spend all the money to have the latest gadget. I find myself using the web a lot and checking email. I don't use much of the data allowance because I mostly use wifi access. So I went with the 300MB data plan. I will be bumping that up to 1GB per month when I switch one of the other phones on my family plan to an iPhone next month, though.

I just thought it was pretty cool that one of the free upgrade cell phones is now an iPhone. This pricing is almost predictable the way technology evolves, but I can't help but think of all those people who line up and spend hundreds of dollars for a phone, when there are so many free cell phone deals out there.
